CHEMISTRY
This class is viewed as an upper level science class. The class wil investigate the properties, structures, and relationships that exist within matter and energy. The student will become familiar with and use metric measurements. Concepts of quantitative analysis, bonding, kinetic theory, and acid-base properties will be covered. For a more precise listing of the topics covered see the reverse side of this page. Students are expected to be involved in class discussions and ask questions. Students must be able to explain various concepts in written and oral form.
GRADING SCALE
The grade scale will be the same as listed in the student manual.
A student's grade will be determined along the following guidelines.
70% - Tests
30% - Homework, Labs, Quizes, etc.
CLASSROOM RULES
1. BE ON TIME AND PREPARED.
One tardy per semester allowed.
Second tardy results in one lunch detention.
Next tardies will be referred to the office.
2. ABSOLUTELY NO LATE HOMEWORK.
If an assignment is late for any reason other than a school excused absence no credit will be given.
If a student is absent it is his/her responsibility to get any assignments prior to the next class period.
Example: Joe has Science on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If he is absent on Wednesday he needs to come in on Thursday to: 1. Hand in any assignments that were due Wednesday.
2. Get the work that was assigned on Wednesday and may be due
Friday.
If a student knows that he/she will be absent they need to let me know
prior to the absence. (This is most applicable to school sponsored
activities.)
3. NO HORSEPLAY IN THE LAB.
1st time- verbal warning
2nd time- student placed in classroom and no credit given for lab.
3rd time- referral to office, possible loss of lab priviledges.
4. TREAT OTHERS WITH RESPECT
1st time - verbal warning
2nd time - private discussion with student
3rd time - referral to office
